Blogtoberfest Day #9: Alana's awesome poetry

Today's guest post comes from my dear friend Alana, who lives in rural New South Wales and blogs at happylan.

Alana is a very talented wordsmith herself, so it's no surprise that her challenge is cerebral as well as creative!

“I was working on the proof of one of my poems all the morning, and took out a comma. In the afternoon I put it back again.”
Oscar Wilde

I love the the power of poetry to completely unravel me or to soothe my soul. I am always on the lookout for new poems or poets to discover, so if you are so inclined, share with us a poem you have written or a poem you love.

Fantastic idea, Alana. Can't wait to see the poems everyone posts to their blogs.

Mine would be a close tie between Cavafy's Ithaka and Rumi's The Guesthouse. But my deepest respect also goes to Dorothy Porter, sadly departed, who published an erotic murder mystery... entirely in verse!

  1. Thanks so much Kat. I love the poems you have shared, that Rumi one (sigh) so good. And I will definitely check out Dorothy Porter's work too, sounds awesome.
