#reverb13 Day 19: Self-compassion



When my girl Jill Salahub offered two prompts for Reverb13, I had so much trouble choosing between them (they were both so ace!) I decided to include both. I was especially rapt by this prompt and image, as self-compassion is the work Jill explores and curates so powerfully in her Self-Compassion Saturday series.

Jill writes:

The Buddha said, “You, yourself, as much as anybody else in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”

In the past year, I have been on a mission to understand and practice self-compassion, which is sometimes defined as "extending compassion to one's self in instances of perceived inadequacy, failure, or general suffering," and what I have learned has made me realize that this practice is at the heart of everything.

  1. A good prompt, Kat. I practice self-compassion as well. Have for years and one very important aspect of self-compassion is being able to forgive oneself. Having mercy on oneself. So many don't do this and thus carry a lot of burden around. A good prompt for getting folks to look at this issue. I keep wanting to jump into your prompts, but as an American missionary in Ukraine it is a very busy season for us, as I know it is for many.
