The day the stones were happy

My friends,

It's no secret I am a huge fan of the work of Sarah Wilder aka The Fifth Element Life. Earlier this year, I purchased one of her Mandala rings -- Motivation, to be precise -- and it was the perfect talisman to carry me through some pretty challenging times.

So when I saw that her Mandala work had evolved to include an offering of sacred stones, I jumped at the opportunity to add them to my [ever growing] collection of conduits to spirit.

I want to share that, whenever I think of these stones, a very special memory springs to mind. When they first arrived, the accompanying guidebook recommended I cleanse them. As many of you would know, this is standard practice when receiving oracle or tarot cards and crystals: it's a powerful way to connect with these artefacts as well as cleanse them of the energies they may be carrying from creation and transportation.

Anyway, Sarah recommended a beautiful ritual representing all five elements: water; a pinch of rock salt (for earth); a feather and incense (for air); a candle (for fire); and a moment of mindfulness (to represent spirit).

I invited my six year old daughter to conduct this little ceremony with me, and she was delighted to be a part of our covert "witchy" mission! We gathered our supplies -- including her favourite cockatoo feather, found during a sleepover at my mum and dad's, and her special Christmas candle -- and sat outside. For the middle of Winter, it was surprisingly mild.

My little girl helped me solemnly pour the water, sprinkle the salt, heat the stones over the candle, then wave wisps of palo santo over the stones. Then I asked her to close her eyes and hold her hands over the stones. We were both quiet for a moment, then I asked her what she felt.

"The stones are happy that we're cleaning them, Mum," She said, "But also: they are happy to be with us."

And that's how I knew our magic had worked.

It feels like such a sacred privilege to be able to share this magic with my community of kindred spirits. Specifically: everyone who has signed up for the Reverb15 reflective writing challenge by 6pm Australian Eastern Standard Time TODAY will receive an oracle reading using these sacred stones.

And then, of course, we kick off tomorrow!

With butterflies from my solar plexus to yours...

Kat x

  1. I just want to tell you how happy and excited I am to be doing Reverb again this year. Thank you in advance for the time and effort you put into this offering!

  2. I love this sweet story of magic! Thank you also for the reminder that I should always energetically clean any new card deck or other spirit tool that comes into my home. Loved reading about the items you used for cleaning and including your daughter in this ritual with you! It is the oerfect story of alchemy to set this writing challenge on course and this sweet magic is just what I need in my life right now. Can't wait to begin cooking up some alchemy for the new year =)

  3. This is such a fabulous story Kat - I can't tell you how happy it makes my heart.
